St. Leo, Bollé Bollé's first project, is still a resounding success after almost 25 years. This year, 668 children are attending the primary school: a new record! We are naturally proud of this, but it also brings logistical challenges. To address this, we bought a new school bus this summer.
Just over half of the students are at boarding school. The other children come on foot or by school bus. Because the city of Igunga continues to expand, the demand for school transport is also increasing. As a result, the two old school buses (with 18 and 30 seats) had to make 2 to 3 trips each morning and evening to pick up all the children. Moreover, the larger of the two buses regularly broke down.
Therefore, the school asked for financial help this year to purchase a new, larger school bus. Since the school chooses to keep the enrollment fees for the students as low as possible, St. Leo does not have the financial margin to fully fund the purchase themselves.
The choice ultimately fell on a new Tata brand school bus. This bus can accommodate 52 people. The school and Bollé Bollé each provided one-third of the purchase price. For the third and final part, Bollé Bollé offered the school an interest-free loan. The school will repay this amount in smaller parts over the next 5 years to Bollé Bollé Non-Profit Foundation Tanzania.
Meanwhile, the brand-new school bus has arrived in Igunga. And the students and teachers are thrilled with it! So, once again, a huge thank you to everyone who warmly supports Bollé Bollé and has contributed to this beautiful project through a donation, no matter how small!
